Metal Oragami Sculptures by Martin Taylor

Martin Taylor’s sculptures bring together the precision of technology and the sensitivity of craft. Using 3D modeling, virtual reality, and hand-shaped metal, he transforms digital geometry into graceful, origami-like forms that feel alive with movement and light.

Martin graduated from The University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While working as a hardware prototyping engineer at Apple Martin became interested in using origami techniques to quickly create structures from flat, laser-cut parts. The metal origami techniques developed by Martin allow intricate contemporary forms to be rendered from metal with the same efficient elegance as paper.

Martin calls his sculptures “Chromaforms,” a combination of the greek word “Chroma” (meaning color) and form. For Martin, sculpture is the act of carefully placing geometric facets to reflect light so as to express meaning.
